What you’ll get out of the program
- Join a team of trainees from across Yale’s schools and departments
- Focus on a specific science-policy theme in small groups
- Receive preparation through three workshops in the spring to develop policy asks and prepare one-pagers
- Travel to Washington, D.C. to meet with congressional staff
Eligibility
- Affiliation with GSAS, any of Yale’s Professional Schools, or Yale College
- Graduate students, professional students, undergraduate students, postbaccalaureate, and postdoctoral trainees can apply
- International students are welcome to apply
- No previous policy experience is required
Participant expectations
- Attendance at all three spring workshops
- Individual work and group meetings between workshops
- Contribution to policy one-pagers
- Participation in the Washington trip
- Post-trip follow-up meeting

No. The program is designed to help participants develop practical science-policy communication and advocacy skills. An interest in connecting scientific expertise with public policy is more important than previous experience.
All students selected to be part of the cohort will receive full funding for transportation and accommodation.
Selected cohort members are expected to attend all three spring workshops, meet independently with their smaller groups and work between workshops, contribute to the development of their team’s policy materials, and participate in the Washington, D.C., trip.
